From Union Carpenter to Industry Innovator

Paul Chatelain

Early Construction Career

Mr. Chatelain began his construction career in 1975 as a union carpenter in Los Angeles, California, as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. In the early 1980s, he advanced to Construction Superintendent for Hitachi Corporation, where he oversaw the construction of the company’s first television manufacturing facility in Carson, California.

Leading Major Construction Projects

He later joined Powerine Oil in Santa Fe Springs, California, serving as Superintendent and managing the construction of gas stations throughout California. After obtaining his contractor’s license, Mr. Chatelain was again engaged by Hitachi Corporation to construct a 90,000-square-foot television manufacturing facility in Anaheim, California. 

 

His responsibilities included permitting, project oversight, and coordinating with Obayashi Corporation, which served as the lead contractor.


Mr. Chatelain subsequently contracted with Hitachi to build the company’s first VCR manufacturing facility in Anaheim. Throughout his contracting career, he completed projects for major corporations including Isuzu, American Can, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and numerous other commercial clients.

Key Innovations & Product Development

In the early 1990s, after developing several miscellaneous products, Mr. Chatelain invented the STRIPS Panel System. By the mid-1990s, he opened his first manufacturing plant, producing commercial buildings, fencing systems, housing components, grow boxes, veneer panels, and mobile home skirting – products he continues to manufacture today.

 

In 2003, Mr. Chatelain invented the Gen Sail wind turbine. The system was further refined and improved by 2020.
